Benefits of black pepper in your diet
A pinch of black pepper can change the taste of your diet altogether. Once used as a currency and as a sacred offering to god black pepper has immensely changed our daily cuisine.
Black pepper will stimulate our taste buds. The gastric acid secreting cells in the stomach catche this information carried from the taste buds and enhances the secretion of hydrochloric acid from the beta cells. Hydrochloric acid is essential for initial digestion of foods, particularly the fat and carbohydrate element. If there is less secretion of gastric acid, the food stays in the stomach for a longer time and this can cause heartburn (dyspepsia). It may also lead to indigestion.
Black pepper is also a good carminative – it means the volatile oils present in the pepper oil can open the gastro-esophageal valve causing releasing of gas from the stomach. This keeps the gastrointestinal tract less tense, thus helping digestion and absorption of nutrients.
Apart from that, black pepper also has diuretic property. It stimulates the kidney to produce excess urine which helps to excrete the waste products from the process of metabolism.
Black pepper is also a diaphoretic, i.e. it promotes sweating. By means of that, black pepper helps to release unwanted metabolites through sweat.
